چکیده

A poromechanical model is developed to identify how chemical reactions of carbonation may impact the mechanical behaviour of wellbore cement in the context of CO 2 storage. The model enables evaluating pore overpressure, porosity and solid skeleton strain evolutions during the carbonation process. The major chemical reactions occurring within cement and their consequences on the volumes of dissolved cement matrix and precipitated carbonate are identified. This information is imported into a poromechanical model and the risk of damage is estimated through the calculation of the free energy stored within the solid matrix. A semi-analytical solution is proposed and applied to a simplified 1D cement carbonation example. The risk of damage of the cement structure submitted to intrusion of aqueous CO 2 is estimated. A set of parametric studies is carried out to investigate the effect of medium permeability and effective diffusion coefficient on the damage risk.

An Exact Solution for Quasi-Static Poro-Thermoelasticity in Spherical Coordin

In this paper the Quasi-Static poro-thermoelasticity model of a hollow and solid sphere under radial symmetric loading condition (r, t) is considered. A full analytical method is used and an exact unique solution of the Quasi-Static equations is presented. The thermal, mechanical and pressure boundary conditions, the body force, the heat source and the injected volume rate per unit volume of a ...

Carbon Dioxide Sequestration In Alkaline Waste

The present study focuses on exploring an array of alkaline waste residues, procured from diverse sources as means for sequestering maximal CO2. Alkaline waste residues undertaken for the study included: (1) Cement Bag Filter Dust, (2) Finished Cement Sample, (3) Marble Dust and (4) Baghouse Dust. Experiments were conducted in a self fabricated Carbonation reactor under 80% CO2 concentration an...

Modeling of Hydration, Compressive Strength, and Carbonation of Portland-Limestone Cement (PLC) Concrete

Limestone is widely used in the construction industry to produce Portland limestone cement (PLC) concrete. Systematic evaluations of hydration kinetics, compressive strength development, and carbonation resistance are crucial for the rational use of limestone. This study presents a hydration-based model for evaluating the influences of limestone on the strength and carbonation of concrete. Firs...

Commentary: Ex Situ Aqueous Mineral Carbonation

CO2 conversion to calcium and magnesium carbonates has garnered considerable attention since it is a thermodynamically downhill pathway to safely and permanently sequester large quantities of CO2. This seminal work performed at The National Energy Technology Laboratory in Albany (NETL-Albany) reports the conversion of calcium-and magnesium-bearing silicate minerals, such as olivine [(Mg, Fe)2Si...
